use the function key just to the right of the space bar and while hitting it hit the scroll lock key. That should break or pause. This ^ is exactly right. I use [Windows + Break] to view System Properties regularly.

Normally this can be initiated by hitting Ctrl + Fn + Break on standard keyboards. However, some newer model laptops do not have the Pause/Break key. The following substitutes may be used. Logitech Keyboards need only Ctrl + Break to work.
