Use Cortana to search for “choose a default browser” and tap on the System settings option. Click on the icon under Web browser and select the browser that you want Cortana to open your searches in. Close the settings window to save your new selection.
Since then, if you use Cortana to search the web for something, it will automatically use Bing to search the web and display the content in an Edge window. Microsoft’s official reason behind this decision is that “Bing and Edge are designed to deliver end-to-end personal search experiences”.

To show just the icon on the Taskbar, right-click on any empty space on the Taskbar and select “Cortana” (or “Search”) > “Show Cortana icon” (or “Show search icon”). The icon will appear on the Taskbar where the Search/Cortana box was.
There is no way on V1903 currently to merge Cortana and Search. The only option you can try is to downgrade to V1809, where both features are combined by default.

At the bottom, under "Web browser," click your current browser (typically Microsoft Edge). In the "Choose an app" window, click Google Chrome.
