Why does RTX 3060 have so much VRAM?

The reason the 3060 has 12GB VRAM is because they designed it with a narrower memory bus, but they needed it to have at least 8GB of VRAM in order to be capable of as much ray tracing as they wanted it to be, and GDDR6 only comes in 1GB or 2GB chips.
