Does instant replay cause lag?

Sometimes Instant Replay needs to stream data to the hard drive. If they are working from the same drive, they end up fighting for access causing both to stall. In addition to a choppy game, you get choppy or unreadably corrupt clips (even if the game wasn’t choppy at the time of recording.)
