Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share the pure gameplay experience with you. Today we’re taking a look at Diablo III: Eternal Collection on the Xbox Series S with Auto HDR enabled on the console.

Diablo 3 is actually using a dynamic resolution on the console, and it can go as high as native 4K (3840×2160) in less busy scenes, such as indoors and when streets aren’t filled with enemies. Resolution can drop all the way back to 1080p during the most intensive scenes.
In a similar vein to cross-play, cross-progression hasn’t been confirmed for Diablo 4, but the odds are ever in its favor. Cross-progression allows players to play the same character across multiple different platforms, as their progress is linked through their Battle.net accounts.
To transfer a save between consoles: Start Diablo III. You may need to patch the game. Go to the main menu and select More. Select Export Save. Start Ultimate Evil Edition on your new console. Select Import Save from the main menu.

While it doesn’t offer native 4K throughout nor HDR, Diablo 3 shows Blizzard cleverly taking advantage of the PS4 Pro’s additional horsepower. It’s using a dynamic resolution scaler to allow the dungeon crawler better fidelity on consoles and improved lighting techniques, while maintaining a solid 60fps framerate.
