Is 3,200MHz RAM overkill?

To keep it short, 3200MHz is perfectly fine. It depends on the memory timings of the RAM kit, and on what your standard for “good” is. If you’re building an Intel gaming PC on a low budget, DDR4 3200 is pointless, because low-end Intel motherboards don’t support RAM above DDR4-2666.
